Our Story

Kia ora, ‘Ia orana, Kia orana. I’m Shannon, founder of Monoi Tiki NZ.

With a background in pharmacy and a decade spent living in the Cook Islands, I was introduced to the timeless beauty of Monoi oil, though it hails from Tahiti, its presence in the islands quickly became part of my daily routine and personal ritual.

In 2008, I visited the Parfumerie Tiki Tahiti factory in Tahiti. Established in 1942, this family-run business continues to be operated by descendants of its original staff, keeping the tradition alive and supporting local Tahitian communities. Their commitment to authenticity and heritage completely won me over.

Upon returning to New Zealand to start a family, I found myself longing for that tropical connection and running low on Monoi far too often. Together with my husband Trev, we partnered with Parfumerie Tiki Tahiti to launch Monoi Tiki NZ, making it easier for fellow Monoi lovers to access the original products year-round, without waiting for island holidays.

Through this journey of sourcing and sharing Monoi oil, it has reconnected me to the islands and the culture that first drew me in. It’s more than a business; it’s a way to stay close to the people, places, and traditions that shaped this passion.
