Our Monoi Story

Kia ora, ‘Ia orana, Kia orana. I’m Shannon, founder of Monoi Tiki NZ.

With a background in pharmacy and a love for the beach, I spent the most amazing decade living in the Cook Islands, which is where I discovered Monoi oil and it quickly became part of my daily routine and personal ritual.

In 2008, I visited the Parfumerie Tiki Tahiti factory in Tahiti. Established in 1942, this family-run business continues to be operated by descendants of its original staff, keeping the tradition alive and supporting local Tahitian communities. Their commitment to authenticity and heritage completely won me over.

Upon returning to New Zealand to start a family, I found myself longing for that tropical connection and running low on Monoi far too often. Together with my husband Trev, we partnered with Parfumerie Tiki Tahiti to launch Monoi Tiki NZ, making it easier for fellow Monoi lovers to access the original products year-round, without waiting for island holidays.

Our Monoi journey has reconnected us to the islands and the culture that first drew me in. It’s more than a business; it’s a way to stay close to the people, places, and traditions that shaped this passion.
